Cockroach Holding 101

I’ve been creating something special that I'm excited to share with readers who enjoyed How to Hold a Cockroach. It is a unique experience designed to help us integrate the book’s themes of curiosity, compassion, freedom, and love. More information below, but first a bit more about what led me to write the book and create this offering.

Of all the topics where beliefs can transform, the dearest to me is oneself. What we believe about ourselves impacts us every moment, every day.

Years ago after a profound loss, I began to understand how deeply beliefs about myself had impacted me: telling me I was undeserving of love, a bad person, a failure. These beliefs persisted despite ample evidence to the contrary, but they ran so deep! So much of my life had been spent terrified they were true, trying to prove to myself and others that they weren't.

Finally becoming aware of the depth and impact of these beliefs, I dedicated myself to freeing him, the one suffering and trapped in those stories. I showered him with compassion and encouragement. I listened with kindness and acceptance. I practiced awareness, curiosity, and stepping out of the stories through mindfulness, presence, generosity and choice. I expressed love and appreciation to myself, over and over and over.

The amazing thing about being in a process like this is: you are both lover and loved. As you practice being that which loves, you eventually become that which receives it! From “I love you” to “I am loved!” And that which is loved loves the lover back in equal measure in a most sublime circle. Then, love inward turns outward, too: to others, to the world around us, to the life we live — even with its daunting challenges and deep grief.

This is what led me to write How to Hold a Cockroach: I discovered how to love things I once hated, including myself. I don’t care much whether the book transforms how you see cockroaches, but I do desire for us to hold ourselves, our lives, and the world around us in ways that free us to experience love, fulfillment, and fun.

This is why I’m creating and sharing something new: Cockroach Holding 101! It's more than a course. It's an experience meant to support your journey towards self-love and freedom, with daily practices, inspiring messages, prompts for personal reflection, and the camaraderie of others who are on the journey. You can add live group workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions, if you'd like. It’s all designed to support you in being free: free to love yourself and others, to be fully present in the living and choosing of your life, to live joyfully in the present, to head in a direction chosen by your heart, not your stories!

If you felt inspired by How to Hold a Cockroach and want to practice incorporating its themes into your life, I personally invite you. You can find more information and register here.
